Joan Cashin

Joan Cashin is an American historian who specializes in social, economic, and cultural history, particularly of the antebellum, Civil War, and Reconstruction eras. She is currently a professor at Ohio State University, where she has a 3.8 (out of 5) rating on RateMyProfessors.com. Her biography of Varina Davis is the first professional biography of Varina to be published, and she won the Fletcher Pratt Award from the Civil War Roundtable of New York for this book.

Cashin has served on the prize committees for the Beveridge-Dunning Prize, the Berkshire Prize, and the Lincoln Prize. She currently serves on the board of the Abraham Lincoln Institute, and she also co-edits a series on gender relations in America with Professor Ron Walters.
