Any book tagged with this topic has or includes significant discussion of the Vikings. The 'Vikings' the the name given to the infamous seafaring Northmen from Scandinavia who raided across Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia in the 8th-11th centuries. Due to their skills in ship building and seafaring, the Vikings were able to travel across the open ocean to reach opportunities for plunder and for settlement. The Viking Age began in 793 AD with the raid of the monastery at Lindisfarne and is considered to have ended in the late 11th century, when the majority of the Viking rulers converted to Christianity. The Vikings settled in many of the places they raided, including England, France (creating Normandy), Russia, Iceland, and Ireland, where they have left strong genetic and linguistic traces.
