Neil Oliver is an archaeologist, historian, author, and presenter in the UK. He worked as an archaeologist in his early career in Scotland, England, and France. He subsequently became a television host for BBC, presenting such series as Two Men in a Trench, Coast, A History of Ancient Britain, and Vikings. Oliver's books were all written as accompaniments to these documentary series, though they can stand alone just as well.
Oliver is very fun to read. He combines his passion and excitement for the past with his descriptive, dramatic flair for prose, creating history that comes to life. Although slightly fanciful, his books are imaginative and exciting works. His facts and theories are backed up by archaeological evidence, and ultimately he cannot help but transmit the wonder of the past to his readers.
