Holy Roman Empire

Any book tagged with this topic focuses on the history and rulers of the Holy Roman Empire. This was an empire founded in AD 800 by the crowning of Charlemagne as Holy Roman Emperor. Territories under imperial control included modern Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, the Czech and Slovak Republics, and parts of modern France and Poland, among others. The Empire was dissolved in 1806 and fractured into roughly the countries in Europe known today.
